I thought it would be fun to post some of the flowers in my neighborhood.....These are all very pretty plants that are in front of the houses that I would pass on my walks...I do not know what this plant is but the flowers were quite exotic.....!
This is the plant that produces these exotic flowers.....I thought the plant itself was rather ordinary looking.....And as far as I can tell, this is the only house that has this plant growing in front.....Now, that plant next to it, on the left......That Is Beautiful!
The Flower really stands out in a way....The shape and the beautiful colors.....If anyone knows what it is, please do tell me....And the lovely plant next to it...well, it produces some very very lovely flowers.....
I should know what this plant is..But, I don't. Judy, where are you when we need you and your incredibly encyclopedic knowledge of all things floral......Here below is a closer look at these truly lovely blooms.....
I love the shape and the color of these beauty's.....Down the street from here, another house has what looks like the same flowers, though the plant itself doesn't seem to be thriving in quite the same way...nor is it as lush.....
A closer look at these little pretty flowers below......
This color is so incredibly rich.....Purples/Lavenders are my very very favorite colors.....and here below an even slightly closer look.....
They sure are pretty.....And then below, these flowers are just growing wild on the side of the hill.....I have no idea what they are, at all....But they certainly are very a very beautiful color......

I think it is quite extraordinary that something this pretty is just growing wild on the side of the hill---which is all decomposing granite....Obviously some little seeds got carried here by the wind, but, that they actually grew into these pretty flowers....well, that's the miracle, isn't it?
And of course, the exotic "Bird Of Paradise" which is everywhere here, believe it or not.....One would almost have to say it is a common planting here in Los Angeles. Still, it is a most unusual flower and the colors are stunning! But you do see it everywhere, as it is used in many many home gardens as well as in the landscaping around many small and big buildings.......Hope you enjoyed these neighborhood flowers......

That is a glorious yellow and has a lily like look.

That last flower was like what we saw at the Bio Dome in Milwaukee Wi when we went.. They look like little birds in the tree's and so bightly colored. Amazing and so beautiful.. Thanks for sharing these and get around to us when you have the time. Life is always busy here to so i visit when I can.

The blue flowers look like borage and the pink ones look like valerian.... but that doesn't mean that they ARE borage and valerian! And those are English names, they are probably called something quite different in USA anyway.

i have 3 of them birds of paradise in my front yard here in florida they get so big. we have cut them all the way down but they keep coming back. when we bought this house they were hugh. i love this time of year spring all the flowers coming to life so cool.

The purpley blue spikey plant is a bush lupine. They are wonderful if you have the space. The pink stalk- that is red valerian. Some of the birds have spread it through the neighborhood- and no one seems to mind one bit. NoSunny So Cal hillside should be without it!

I forwarded a copy of one photo to Nan Sterman- She wrote the California Garden Guide: Vol II and frequently contributes to the LA Times. She believes the big yellow flower is one of her favorites, Solandra maxima, aka the cup of gold vine. It is a woody vine like plant found growing in old neighborhoods.It isn't very cold cold hardy but when it is happy it is absolutely fabulous- with time, this slower can grow to 20 feet long or more.
